My birth story with Milo

My birth story with Milo

My second son Milo was born March 12th 2023 at 5:34am. But let’s go back to the beginning.

My due date was originally April 9th. Yes you read that right, he was born a whole a month early haha!

My water broke Friday March 10th at around 1pm. Since I work from home I was on my lunch break when I felt something leak. I went to the bathroom thinking it was nothing and It ended up being a gush of water, this time there was no doubt, MY WATER JUST BROKE!

My husband being in the army, he was not home, he was on the other side of the country for some training, so I was alone and only 35 weeks and 5 days pregnant, which was even scarier.

The hospital being 1hour away, one of my friend drove me to the hospital and waited with me until I was put into a labor and delivery room, by this time it was about 6pm.

Nothing much happen that night, as they were waiting for me to start having contractions and labor on my own before doing anything.

The next day, march 11th at 8am, I still did not have any contractions and was only dilated to a 1 so they decided to start Pitocin at 10am, and since baby was a early they did not want to risk anything by waiting too long and have a potential risk of infection.

I started having contractions around 1pm and was 2-3 cm dilated but stayed there until way later that evening.

At around 3-4 pm I decided to get the epidural, and then they placed what they call a “balloon” to help me dilate even more. My husband, who was able to catch an emergency flight that morning, was back and stopped by the hospital before heading home for a bit.

The nurses made me try different positions for a few hours to make baby go down and by 10pm I was finally dilated to 6, and then went from a 6 to a 9.5 pretty quick in about 2 hours. When my husband got back to the hospital at 12:30-1am I was still at 9.5.

I did a few practice pushes around 2am while waiting to be at a full 10. I started really pushing around 3am and pushed for a little bit over an hour until 4:34 am. It was the night of daylight savings, so we jumped an hour ahead, and baby was born at 5:34 am on Sunday March 12th at exactly 36 weeks and weighing 5lbs 11oz. There is nothing better then finally holding your rainbow baby!

My previous birth with my first son Adrin was an emergency C-section, so this was a whole new experience. Being able to have my VBAC was amazing and I am beyond grateful for the nurses that made it all happen. Pushing was way harder than I expected but the recovery was a breeze, I was up and walking 1.5 hours later, and was never in huge pain either if I compare it to my c section recovery.

It was a scary experience to try for a VBAC, as a lot could have gone wrong, but it was beautiful, and like everyone says, I forgot the pain the moment I finally held Milo in my arms…
